THE HISTORIC SMITHFIELD
Gourmet Café & Bakery
Aromas from the Smithfield Gourmet Café & Bakery lure hungry travelers and locals from the street to the early 1800s establishment nestled smartly along historic Smithfield’s Main Street. There, amongst romantic , Victorian greenery and seasonal sidewalk regalia, the cafe bistro tables await the next lucky patron.
Carolyn Burke, a passionate baker, cook and entrepreneur from the mountains of Virgina, opened the Smithfield Gourmet Cafe and Bakery in 1993.
Nearly every recipe comes from the owner’s collection. And, of course, the chefs incorporate their recipes, too.
The result is an unparalleled selection of inventive meals, delicious sides and slap-yer-mamma mixtures for dessert. All of it, made from the finest, freshest ingredients available.
Our chef is committed to innovation and excellence in new and appetizing menu selections, made from only the finest ingredients.
We are proud of our ingredients, starting with the finest in fresh, locally-grown produce and responsibly sourced meats, dairy, grains and flours.
Our menus are seasonal as we incorporate the exciting changes in flavors of fresh produce and meats together as availability changes through the year.
We have a creative taste for every season. Last summer, it was Five-Spice Seared Tuna and Scallops with veggie stir fry over mixed greens. This winter, try our Brunswick Stew or our award-winning She-Crab Soup.
No matter when you come, you’ll find our menus full of old favorites, such as our Main Street Monte Cristo Sandwich. However, you’ll also find seasonal items that bring exciting new flavors to our menu, such as our famous Pumpkin Crush Cake, available every fall starting in October.
